What Causes Red Bump Like Rashes Behind Knee?
Question: My son had stitches on his knee 10 days ago. The cut looks fine and is healing. Last night he came to me and said his knee was itching. His stitches were fine but he had a rash on the backside of his knee. It was red with bumps (a typical rash). I gave him Benadryl and he was fine to sleep. It was no worse when he got up this morning and we left his stitches uncovered today. The rash stayed the same all day but tonight it looked to be spreading. I am taking him to the Dr. tomorrow afternoon to get the stitches removed. Is this some sort of allergic reaction or do I need to take him first thing in the morning?
Brief Answer:
Allergic reaction likely.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The rash on the backside of the knee can be due to an allergic reaction to the bandage. This is not likely to be worrisome.
Such minor rashes usually improve on applying 1% hydrocortsione ointment and calamine lotion.
You can consult a physician in case the rash spreads or becomes purple.
I hope this answers your query.
