Hello. Thank you for writing to us
I have taken note of your query and I have understood it.
I suggest a possibility of Acute Urticaria/ Hives.
Urticaria usually presents as red, itchy, skin welts/swellings and they can be distributed all over the body.
Itching is usually severe in patients of urticaria.
Acute Urticaria is usually allergic in nature and the implicating factors can be varied.
Common ones include:
-Foods allergy like milk, eggs, peanuts, cheese, tomatoes, pineapple, fish and prawns etc
-Food preservatives e.g canned food and drinks like cold drimks etc
-Drugs like Pain killers/ NSAID's, antibiotics, aspirin, vaccinations etc
-Viral infections like common cold etc may also present with urticaria and itching.
-Worm infestation is also an important cause in children.
Majority of acute urticaria cases resolve within 2 weeks.
Treatment is symptomatic i.e Oral antihistamines for a week or 10 days along with topical soothing lotion.
A short course of an Oral steroids i.e for a week or so, may also be required for symptomatic relief as in her case.
Therefore, I would suggest you to continue with the oral treatment as advised by your doctor
The other tablet that you mention contains pheniramine maleate. It is also helpful in controlling acute urticaria.
However, give her only 1/2 of the dose/tablet, at a time. You may give her round the clock i.e thrice daily Or every 8 hourly.
Please discuss the dose with your pediatrician.
Topically you may use a soothing lotion e.g calamine lotion for her.
I also suggest deworming for her, if it was'nt done in the past 6 months.
Regards
I suggest you to continue with the same treatment for next 2-3 days
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Fine.
Very unlikely to be animal scabies. Mites that infect animals are different from the one that infects humans.
When animal mites land on human skin they fail to thrive and produce a mild itch that goes away on its own.
In other words animal scabies does not require any treatment.
I suggest you to continue with Oral steroids and cetrizine for the time being, for next 2-3 days.
Pheniramine maleate can be given just 1/2 of the tablet, every 8 hourly (i.e thrice daily) Or 12 hourly (i.e twice daily) for next 2-3 days.
You may also take her off from twice daily dosing of Oral steroids after 2-3 days and rather make it to once daily dose in morning for another 2-3 days as her rashes show signs of improvement.
