What Causes Red-purple Lesions Throughout Body And Pustules Upon Exertion?

Posted on Wed, 23 Sep 2015
Question: I am submitting this on behalf of my boyfriend as he has told me in the past he has been told nothing can be done. He has these red/purple-ish lesions all over his body. But the highest quantity tend to develop in dark sweat prone areas, such as his underarms and the connection area between his thigh and groin. On days where he's involved in more rigorous activities large pustules form in those areas (images attached) which are extremely painful and take days to go down. They ooze puss, liquid, and blood. He generally has one or two at different sizes at all points in time. I'm just looking for a general guideline of what this might be so I can convince him to return to a doctor for treatment. Thank You!

Brief Answer:
This is a fungal infection. He needs management as discussed.

Detailed Answer:
Dr. Hanif warmly Welcomes you to my virtual clinic HCM!
I have carefully worked through your case, and can realize your health worries. Being your physician, I will take care all of your medical concerns.

It is a fungal infection and the picture shown is actually known as Jock Itch and needs proper care and treatment. His groin area is secondarily attacked by the bacteria and pus filled lesions are easily seen there. Some are fresh, other healing, some healed up crusted.

Ask him to shave the Underarms and Pubic area frequently and with care (not to damage the areas if there are pus filled lesions).
Hair when grow long and get dense they become the reservoir of opportunistic pathogens. Sebum and humidity causes an environment best suited for growth of such organisms.

If I was his treating physician I would have prescribed him with Cephalexin, Ibuprofen, Loratadine by mouth and topical Hydrozole Cream (Hydrocortisone/Clotrimazole) to be applied on the lesions. Take shower with Oatmeal milk and honey body lotion. Don't use scented soaps. Avoid body sprays/Deodorants directly on the skin and no antiperspirant roll-Ons.

Take plenty of water and avoid vigorous activities. Wear loose clothes and cotton only underwear and other undergarments. Make sure the sports clothes he wears are all 100% cotton.

These management options will help him get better soon.

Have a wonderful time ahead. Hope I answered all of your questions. Let me know if you have any further clinical concerns or doubts. I will be more than happy to get back to you in no time. If satisfied here, please give a generous five star rating and don't forget to close the discussion.
For any disease you have, a timely follow-up after sometime regarding the treatment efficacy and to see any need to change the treatment options is very necessary. Keep a follow up some days after this visit session ends.

Regards!
