What Causes Redness On The Roof Of The Mouth?

default
Posted on Thu, 8 Jun 2017
Question: I have this redness on the top left side of my mouth that won't go away and has skin flaking off sometimes. I have been diagnosed with sebhorreic detmatitis on my face but I only had one breakout over a year ago and this started appearing several months ago, only on the top left of my mouth. I used hydrocortisone 1% twice a day for several days and it came back. Is this eczema or something else? I'm reluctant to use steroid cream for long because the skin around my mouth is apparently thinner.

Brief Answer:
Pimecrolimus cream is an option

Yes, this a patch of seborrheic dermatitis. Topical steroids are only temporarily effective for seborrheic dermatitis. You may use pimecrolimus 1% cream (Elidel cream), twice daily. It is a non-steroidal topical alternative for facial seborrheic dermatitis and can be safely used for long term.
