What Causes Right-sided Abdominal Pain?

default
Posted on Thu, 2 Mar 2017
Question: Hi, I have had right abdominal pain for weeks now. Started as a dull ache when exercising but has slowly got worse to now when I walk, drive (especially speed bumps or uneven road), sneeze, cough the pain is acute and only subsides if I lay down in my left side or back. Have had countless blood tests, ultrasound, CT scans and colonoscopy and so far nothing has been found. I am due to have a gastroscopy next week but its really now getting to me that its not been diagnosed as it really is having a large affect on my day to day life and activities. The pain is just to the right of my belly button and had radiated to side and back at times. Anyone had the same and had it diagnosed? Please help.

Brief Answer:
Muscular sprain

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for choosing HCMfor query,

As almost all tests from CT to USG to colonoscopy are normal,Its not something which can pose risk to life.So dont panic. As per your history pain started when you were walking and from that time its almost always related to exertion or muscular movement.
I would suggest you take a complete bed rest of 5 days,As all major reports are normal it could possibly be a simple muscular sprain.Give your body rest for atleast 5 days.Ask yor gastroenterologist to start you on a combination of diclofenac with muscle relaxant or antispasmodic for few days.
Don't exert your body.
Don't repeat moments which provoke pain.
Take the above suggested medicine and complete bed rest for few days(As per your treating doctor advice).

Report me how you are feeling after 3 days.
Thanks!

Hi and thank you for your response. I omitted that the CT taken a month ago found air in the large ascending colon (pneumatosis) but no reason for it to be there has been found or any other symptoms. I have been a high class cyclist for years and am physically very fit, I haven't trained for 1 month now and simple movements like rolling over in bed can induce acute pain and discomfort I don't think this is muscular as I often feel a burn in the the location of the issue. Some have said it could be a grumbling appendix. Divitculitis perhaps but no acid reflux, bowels are normal and regular, as is pee sample?

follow up advice.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for choosing HCM for your query,
Hi as already said as all major tests are normal so its not diverticulitis or appendix problem,As that would be reflected in CT scans and other tests which have already been done.As bowel are normal and you don't have any acid reflux too,So the only thing we are left with is to try treatment for muscular sprain.
Try the treatment suggested by me for atleast 3 days and report me if there is any improvement.

To cut it short-
Take any over counter Probiotic,Tab Pantoprazole 40 mg with Antispasmodics(will help you with spasm and pain) for 3 days.r.
Along with it Some general measures which will help you more are
- Increase XXXXXXX warm water intake
- Eat plentiful "fresh oranges" and "pear "
- Take a diet which is very low in Fat.
- Add lot of vegetables and fruits to your diet.
-Try to eat vegetable,Take a lot of yoghurt along with food.
-Take two tea spoon isphagula husk with 200 to 300 mL water once while going to bed every day.
- Avoid COLD milk and and AVOID junk food(NO burger , pizza-even if its veg.)
- avoid beverages / alcohol/ soft drinks
- avoid carbonated drinks

If not even mildly relieved then further investigations would be suggested.
Thanks
