What Causes Round Movable Lump Near Scrotum?

default
Posted on Mon, 1 Jun 2015
Question: About 9 months ago I discovered a round moveable lump near my scrotum (but on the outside) between the base of my penis and outside of left side of my scrotum (about the size of a bean or small grape). It is closer to the outside of my scrotum than inner crease in my leg. I had possibly pulled a muscle in my leg and groin while moving last August. It actually appears to have gotten somewhat smaller over the last several months. At times it seems like it can get a little bigger and then smaller. It seems smaller when lying down and I can feel it better while standing up. It doesn't feel attached to anything and is moveable and not hard but also not completley soft. The only real pain is when I check on it constantly, then that area becomes sore for a few days. Could this be a lymph node? Cyst? I have checked my testicles and have no lumps on either one, inside the scrotum.

Hello.

Welcome to Healthcare magic.

I read carefully your query.

There are some possible causes for it .
It can be a swollen lymph node, a benign lump like lipoma, or a small inguinal hernia.
Usually a lymph node or cyst ,lipoma wouldn't cause the size in different positions.Usually inguinal hernia can get smaller in lying position and get's bigger when standing up or in movements that create abdominal pressure like straining, lifting heavy weights, coughing etc.
The only way to know it for sure is to get examined.
A physical examination is necessary to know it for sure.
It doesn't seem to be of concern since it has been there for 9 months and hasn't change in size but it would be recommended to get it checked out by a doctor.

I would suggest to consult a physician and get examined.

Hope it helps.
Let me know if you have any other question or need any clarification.I would be happy to help.

Thank you for the reply. I am planning to make an appointment. So it sounds like you are not as concerned of being something more serious. I thought if it would have been something cancerous I would have been having a lot more complications by now - it will soon be 10 months and it has definelty not gotten bigger since the 1st time I discovered last August. If it is a hernia? What will the treatment be?

Hello.

If it has been there for 10 months and it hasn't changed at all ,that definitely is not cancerous and not something serious.

If it is hernia ,since it is very small and you don't have any symptom at all ,treatment might not be necessary and you may just need to observe it .If it get's bigger and painful ,it would require surgery to repair it.

Hope it helps.
Feel free to ask for any question that you might have.

Take care.
