Hello,

Thank you for using HealthcareMagic,
I read it carefully.

Can you please provide some more details about your problem?

What do you mean by "rushing" sensation? - is there any Pain? Numbness? Tenderness? etc (please describe).

Where is it localized (which part of the neck)?
When did it start and how long does it last?

What makes it worse or better? Have you tried any medicine that seems to help?
Do you have any other symptoms?
Do you suffer from any other problem?

Please provide this information so that I will be able to provide more accurate advises.

Looking forward to your follow up question.

It feels as though some "surge" (for lack of a better word) is inside my body that rushes up from a pinched nerve in the right side of my neck, into the right side of my head. There's very little pain and no real numbness, just a sensation. It lasts for a few seconds. I don't know when it started. It happens infrequently. I don't have any other symptoms. I do have high blood pressure. The pinched nerve in my neck has been there for some time, I'd say maybe a year or longer. I've put ice on it a few times. I'm not sure what kind of medication would help with the sensation.

Brief Answer:
Some possible diagnoses and suggestions

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thank you for the follow-up question.

From what you are describing and the information I have, I could say it may be many things:

- It may be a pinched nerve, which gets reproduced once in a while from a specific movement.

- It may be related to the temporomandibular joint if it gets worse when you eat hard foods or open your mouth a lot, or when you touch the joint.

- I don't think it is related to the high blood pressure, but checking the carotid artery for bruises and if necessary doing an ultrasound of it, would rule out important blockage of the carotid artery which sometimes gives this kind of discomfort.

- If it is spread in the branches of the trigeminal nerve, it may be an inflammation of this nerve too.

I would advise using a painkiller regularly for some time so that in case it is an inflamed nerve, joint or muscle, the painkiller will relieve the possible inflammation and the sensations which come and goes.

Of course, use it if you don't have any contraindication like stomach problems. I usually recommend Ibuprofen 400mg, every 8 hours after food for next 2-3 days.

If you can see a physical therapist they may help to advise exercises who can strengthen the muscles in that area.

If worse or not better, I would recommend seeing a physician for a thorough clinical examination.

Hope this is helpful.
Let me know if you need more clarifications.

Regards,
Dr. Papaqako
