What Causes Scanty Periods With Swelling In Breasts?

Question: My last period was Feb 26th and it was spotty. My breast are swollen and sore. I took a pregnancy test twice and it was negative. What do you think is going on?

Brief Answer: AS BELOW Detailed Answer: Hello Thanks for writing to us with your health concern. In general, do you always have regular cycles, or are they irregular ? With regular cycles, the pregnancy test should be 97 % reliable. If the symptoms concern you, it is best to go for a blood B HCG test and a pelvic ultrasound scan to confirm. Antidepressants can lead to scant / irregular cycles. Weight gain, stress, travelling, changes in diet and sleep etc can also cause a spotty / irregular cycle. If irregular cycles are the norm, it is best to have a gynaecological examination ( per vaginum and per speculum ) and hormonal tests ( FSH, LH, TSH, Prolactin, DHEAS, Free testosterone, OGTT ) All the best Please feel free to discuss further.

My cycles are irregular. Could that cause a false positive for the pregnancy test?

Brief Answer: AS BELOW Detailed Answer: How irregular are they ? I think its because of the anti depressants. With irregular cycles, the accuracy falls. IT is best to have a blood test / pelvic ultrasound scan to confirm.
