What Causes Seizures With Normal EEG Reports?

default
Posted on Sat, 14 Jun 2014
Question: Hi, I have had several seizures now over the past year. They all seem to be brought on after being exposed to heat related situations, in which my body gets over heated (backstory: I have had several heat strokes in the past and have been told that my body can no longer regulate my temperature properly. I have had many issues with temperate and my body because of this.) I have seen a neurologist and had both the EEG and the other test (I forget what its called) and was told all was clear. I have been put on an anti seizure med by my PCP. Is there any point in still seeing the neurologist again? And can a seizure be brought on my over exertion/over heating? Thank you!

Brief Answer:
Heat attack's

Detailed Answer:
Dear
thanks for sharing with us your symptoms and I am sorry for the symptoms you are suffering.
Dear you should understand that due to other disorder you suffer it will be difficult for the neurologist to determinate if we are suffering epilepsy or not.
It is absolute that if brain MRI and EEG are normal you are not suffering from epilepsy so other tests needs to be done to determinate the cause of seizure.
It is real that heat can cause seizure but it product changes on EEG.
It seems you are suffering seizure due to metabolic changes provoked by heat.
I suggest you to contact an internist doctor and test electrolytes with blood tests
Hope my answer will help you

Thank you Dr.! If I were suffering from metabolic changes from the heat, what other symptoms would I have? Also, I live in a VERY hot climate (the state of Arizona) which can produce the hottest of temperatures in the country. At the same time it has very frequent temperature changes (ranging from about 40 degrees up and down every single day). My body cannot keep up with it, and it is a very common symptom for fibro suffers to feel great pain with not only the heat, but the constant temperature changes as well. In your opinion Dr., would it be beneficial to my health to move to a much cooler, and more stable climate?

Climate changes

Well unfortunately I live in a place where we have dramatic rises and falls in the temperature and in the summer can experience 110 degrees Fahrenheit on a normal day. I drink about 1 gallon of water a day and stay inside most days. But we have been considering a move to a much cooler climate to better my overall happiness. Would such a move such as this better some of these symptoms?

Brief Answer:
Probably yes

Detailed Answer:
Hi there
Dear it seems that the solution is changing the way of living.
Before you decide to move permantly to another place my advise is to prove one month living somewhere else (not so big climate changes )
I think that will resolve the seizures i am not sure about pain but probably it will disappear or decrease intesity.
Hope my advice will help you
Let me know for further questions
