What Causes Severe Abdominal Pain In Lower Lumbar Region, Nausea And Poor Appetite?
Question: Hi
I have severe abdominal pain in the lower lumbar region, no fever, no nausea, no constipation, diarrhea, etc. the only other symptom is loss of appetite I ate once today and forgot that I hadn't eaten since 4pm. I've been seen twice since January for this, have had 2 BMPs done and nothing. They couldn't give me an answer.

Brief Answer:
Get an ultrasound done
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for writing in
With the history that you have given there are all probabilities you have a small calculus and/or collitis
Usually when the reports come normal a clinical examination and an ultrasound will be of great help
Can you describe the pain? as to the type colicky, stabbing, vague? How does it come and go? Any urinary symptoms? How is the pain relieved?
Please get back to me with the information and ultrasound report
Regards

Thank you for your reply.
No colic in regards to the pain, its a stabbing pain when breathing in deeply and yawning. It's a constant pain (7 on 1-10 scale) at rest. Ive had no urinary symptoms, although after messaging you last night I had an abnormal BM. Constipation with the urge to evacuate. This morning, the pain has subsided to a 4 while at rest, and a 5 while moving around. I found nothing that relieved the pain even after taking ibuprofen. Usually, if there is inflammation of any sort, ibuprofen has worked for me in the past.

Brief Answer:
Go for an ultrasound
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for the detailed information
It is good to see patients with your level of awareness
I would suggest you go for an ultrasound of abdomen and pelvis
In the mean time start with a good probiotic twice a day, and add Tab Meftal spas as and when required and revert back with the report
Hope this helps
Do write back in case of concern

Hello-
Thank you for this additional information. My pain did not subside today and I went to the emergency room due to a nausea episode along with the pain and constipation. The doctor there has given me a referral for an ultrasound this week. He also gave me a prescription for vicodin. Hopefully I can hold off on the vicodin, though, as addiction is in my family. I have been drinking lots of water and will be switching to a low fat diet, as the PA thought that it may be gallstones. Thanks so much for your help and second opinion so far, and if its okay, I would like to keep you updated on the ultrasound seeing as you are a gastroenterologist.
As for my being well informed, I am a nursing student and have taken anatomy and the like. I thoroughly enjoy the human body, and continue to search for all the information I can find. Thank you for noticing!
