Brief Answer:
likely acute gastritis, she can take rantac.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to health care magic,

I have read your query and understand the concern about back pain, bloating and vomiting.

From the symptoms of your mother, I would like to say that the underlying cause is likely because of acute gastritis. it can be because of tablet Ultracet as NSAID pain killers are likely to cause stomach bloating and gastric trouble.

For that, I would advise her to apply topical pain killer (like volini gel) for symptomatic relief from back pain and it is better to avoid oral pain killers.

And yes, she can take tablet Rantac 150 mg twice daily which is an antacid.

Apart from over the counter antacids tablets, she should also take Tab.Gas-X (generic name: Simethicone) twice daily which is available at any nearby pharmacy. It will give relief from bloating.

Give tab.ondasetron 4mg for nausea or vomiting and syrup Digene 2 TSF two times a day if she has gastric burning.

Apart from above medications, she should also be careful with her diet like,

Should avoid eating full stomach, instead take small meals.

Drink plenty of water and fruit juices. Avoid hot, oily and spicy foods.

Should take soft diet only for initial couple of days.

With above symptomatic treatment and dietary precautions,we would expect to see some improvement within 1 or 2 days.

And she can continue to take her thyroid and blood pressure medications.

Hope this detailed explanation will be helpful.

Dear Dr.Kabra,
Thank you for your timely and helpful advice.
I have started giving her Digene syrup(1-0-1) ,Rantac(1-0-1) and Gas-X.The nausea and vomitting have subsided after taking Ondasteron 4mg and she is able to consume light food but the stomach bloating and back pain are yet to subside.
She faced heavy sweating last night and has not passed stools for over 3 days now.Can you please identify the cause and suggest a suitable remedy?
Thank you.
With warm regards,

Brief Answer:
Liquid Looz 2TSF

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for asking again,

I have read it again.

It is good that your mother has improved but I would suggest you to wait for couple of more days to subside stomach bloating. It may take sometime to get rid off even with medications.

Since she has not passed stool for 3 days,it could also be the reason behind her bloating and overnight heavy sweating.

For bowel evacuation, I would advise her to take Liquid Looz 2TSF or liquid Cremaffin plus which is readily available over the counter. She could feel better after bowel evacuation.

In case, if she does not pass stool even after taking Looz liquid or does not feel better, I would suggest you to seek help from some nearby hospital. They may put Dulcolax suppository (to be inserted through anus for bowel movement) after consulting to the doctor. The doctor will examine her and will take vitals like pulse, blood pressure.

Let me know if you need more help.

Regards,

Dr.Sandip Kabra

Dear Dr.Kabra,
I'm pleased to inform you that my mother's Gastritis and stomach bloating problem has significantly reduced and she was able to pass stools without taking the Looz syrup.
The back pain continues to exist but is reducing slowly.
She is a vegetarian and is on a low-oil non-spicy diet always. She drinks a glass of Horlicks in warm water everyday. My specific questions are:
1.How long should she continue taking the antacid medication ie Digene+Rantac?
2.Is it advisable for her to take a full specrum Vitamin and Mineral supplement? If so,what is your recommendation?
Thank you again for your invaluable help and advice.
With warm regards,
