What Causes Severe Chest Pain And Normal EKG Report?

Question: I am a healthy 49 year old female. I was awoken this morning at 4.30am with excruciating chest pain. No nausea or vomiting. No sweating. Pain 8 out of 10. Went to ER with a normal EKG and troponin levels were normal. Pain radiates through to the back at times. They dx me with costochronditis. I am currently on naproxen and ultram. Instead of going to follow up with a family doctor I was going to follow up with a cardiologist with whom I'm already established. Could it be cardiac with normal blood levels? Just want to get a second opinion. Thank you.... XXXXXXX
Brief Answer:
This is not cardiac related!
Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.
I am so sorry to hear about these pains and all the inconveniences this has caused you. These symptoms are not related to a cardiac disease. A normal EKG, troponins, blood pressure and normal cardiac examinations are not in favor of this. I will recommend you follow up with your PCP and if there is need for another cardiologist referral, he would issue it.
I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thanks for using our services and feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.

Can costochronditis wake you up out of a dead sleep and feel like someone is squeezing your chest? It hurts to take a breath such as muscle spasms. When I push on the front of the sternum there is not any tenderness which there would be with costochronditis....also very difficult to sleep because of hurting. Any suggestions?
Brief Answer:
This pain is mechanical...Not from the hard!
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
If this pain were from the hear, it would not be provoked by sleeping. Heart pain is constand and not provoked by any mechanical pressure. Costochondritis is about the ribs and the sternum. Breath that hurts also points away from a heart disease and rather supports costochondritis.
My suggestion is to follow with the medications. Of course, you should start to see real progress pretty soon and this would be convincing to you.
I wish you well and feel free to takk to me as need be.
