What Causes Severe Hair Loss While On Singulair?
Here is some information.
Detailed Answer:
I tried to find any research citing hair loss resulting from Singulair. While it can cause a number of dermatological side effects, I could not find hair loss in any lists of side effects occurring above or equal to 1%. So if it does occur, it would be at a very low rate (i.e. less than 1%).
Similarly, I could not find evidence for hair loss from diphenhydramine (Benadryl) at any significant rate (at or greater than 1%).
That said, it doesn't mean that it cannot cause hair loss in any particular individual. If you noticed a direct correlation from your experience then that should be taken as legitimate. I think it is wise to discuss this with your dermatologist.
You can also ask a pharmacist where you get your meds filled to run a research on montelukast and diphenhydramine causing alopecia (hair loss). The pharmacist might be able to find drug data that explain this if any has been noted in the pharmaceutical literature. Many pharmacists will do this for you (if they are the one who fills your prescription) if you explain that you would be fine with waiting a few days for the info so that they have time to do this when they are free.
I hope this information helps.
