Question: I have been getting severe headaches that start in my right temple and then travellto the top off my head I take 2 Aleve tablets and go to sleep when I wake up the head ache is a dull thump but I am off balance and feel very weak. I also seem to get what I call residual pain in the back and top off my that I can only describe as pressure(pain sharp not dull) that builds up and then seems to pop and then feels like the pain drains out these can be as many as 4 in the next 8 to 10 hrs. What could this be? And how do I stop it?

Brief Answer:
Causes may be several, medical evaluation needed.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for using HCM.

I have read your question and understand your concerns.

These headaches may be primary headaches such tension type, cluster headaches, or can be related to conditions such occipital neuralgia.

High blood pressure and perimenopausal changes could be related to.

In rare cases headaches may be associated with intracranial lesions such arteriovenous malformations, etc.

The right way to treat you is first to have a correct diagnosis.

Neurological examination and imaging studies such brain MRI are needed for this purpose.

If structural lesions are excluded after this evaluation, you should be treated symptomatically for your headaches according to neurological examination findings about the type of the headache.

You should discuss with your primary care Doctor your concerns, who can order proper tests and consulting.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care.
