What Causes Severe Headache Despite Taking Ibuprofen?
Please answer some questions related to your problem
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for using Healthcaremagic to post your health query.
I read carefully your question and I understand your concern.
Can I please ask some more questions to clarify and understand what is going on with you so I can advice better and accurately.
- Is it the first time you have this type of pain, or you have suffered from it before?
- Is Ibuprofen helping to relieve the pain?
- What else makes the headache better or worse?
- Does moving your jaw makes it worse?
- Is it painful when you touch the area at the right temple?
- From 0-10 how strong is the pain, with and without Ibuprofen?
- Do you have pain in the neck also, or is it only crack? - Please answer as many of these questions about the neck too, and tell me a bit more about it.
I know these may seem like a lot of questions, but all of them help me give you a better care.
Looking forward to your follow up question.
Regards,
Dr. Papaqako
Ibuprofen that I have taken seems to help at first, but after time the dull pain returns. I think I stated I've taken several doses of ibuprofen ranging from 400mg to -800mg. I took 800mg before bed last night slept well. I have not taken any today.
The headache does not change from intensity. It does periodically change in location but right temple is continual. I have noticed it feels like pressure currently in front of my rt ear. I have also felt pressure over rt eye/forehead and also now rt temple.
there is pain/ tenderness at rt temple on scale of 3-4 out of 10 being the worst.
On Friday morning when I awoke the pain intensified and pain level was a 6-7. I remained in a supine position for a while I did take my first dose of ibuprofen 400mg. I can't remember but believe it helped at first.
the neck is not painful just with noticeable cracking
no nausea or vomiting. no fever
I think you asked about my jaw. no pain movement from side to side cracks. No it does not make it worse. Thank You
finally, I am tired no energy, trying to move about... had a physical in early March blood work fine except cholesterol higher than normal...working on that!
Headache with some red flags- not common.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for the information that you provided and for answering every question.
I see some red flags in your headache.
- It is a new headache.
- It doesn't get relieved by the common analgesics.
- Has not a typical location and it is not related with the temporo-mandibular joint despite the location.
So, if I was your caring doctor, I would suggest that you see a neurologist and so they can do a physical exam, a neurological exam and MRI/other tests if needed.
- It may be a new migraine, but it is not common that it is lasting so much.
- Also, it may be a temporal artheritis headache, but in that case, it would be an emergency because it may cause lose of vision if you don't get the needed treatment.
- These above are the most common, but it may be many things, all depending on the neurological exam and the tests.
I hope this helps.
Feel free to write again if you have any other question or concerns.
Kind regards,
Dr. Papaqako.
Glad to have been of help
