What Causes Severe Hot Flushes While On Oxycontin?

default
Posted on Thu, 9 Jun 2016
Question: I am on Oxycontin 60 Ml twice a day. I have bad back and both knees from Snow skiing to many years.

My question is this in the mornings when getting ready for work and getting my kids off to school.

I get very hot, I all most need to take a shower again. I sit down for sometime to cool off. Is this normal for Oxycontin if so anything I can do.

Hello and Welcome

I appreciate your concern

Yes, this is reported as a side effect of oxycontin but its frequency is not known exactly. It can present with sweating, profuse flushing of chest, neck and face. BP should be measured, blood counts and thyroid function tests should be done to rule out other causes such as polycythemia and thyrotoxicosis which can present similarly. The medication should be stopped. The dose can be tapered if the duration of treatment has been more than a month.

Wishing you best of health

Thanks

Thanks for your answer. I cant stop taking said pain pill. I have chronic pain

the soft stuff I don't remember the name anyway it is pushing that soft stuff against my Sadistic Nerve which is radiating down my left leg in calf are and it feels like someone or something is stabbing me. Without the meds I cant stand the pain, I am worthless.

I will have the blood work done you said I should and will send you the report once I receive the paper work.

Thanks again for your time.

Hello again

Yes. You may share the results.

If there is evidence of vertebral compression then steroids or NSAIDS should also be added in consultation with your doctor.
