What Causes Severe Lower Abdominal Cramps, Elevated WBC And Creamy Vaginal Discharge?

default
Posted on Thu, 14 Jul 2016
Question: Tuesagy evening I had severe lower abdominal cramping which had been progressing for 2 days, no fever, or vomiting. I went to ER. Blood tests showed slight elevation of WBC but everything else normal. My appendix was removed about 20 yrs ago. Dr sent me home saying it was likely gastroenteritis but now I am noticing a creamy vaginal discharge . I have no fever. Still have camping though now it is more moderate. Should I try to get an appointment for abdominal ultrasound? What could be the causes of the discharge ( it is not. Normal vaginal secretions).

Brief Answer:
Gynecology consult

Detailed Answer:
Dear      XXXX,

Thank you for trusting HCM with your question, I will make sure to answer your question to the best of my knowledge.

Causes of vaginal discharge are so variable, some are pathological some are physiological. Since you suggest it is not the normal secretions, most common differential of pathological vaginal discharge is bacterial vaginosis or Vulvovaginal candidiasis. Some other causes can be related to the cervix polpys of ectopy.

I would recommend that you set an appointment with your gynecologist. Symptoms like lower abdominal pain, vaginal discharge, you might have an infection it can be mild that it is not causing fever. To figure out what this discharge is, your gynecologist will take a swab to do some cultures, repeat the CBC the ER doctor did, and maybe do an abdominal ultarsound too. This will allow your gynecologist prescribe the needed treatment for you.

Thank you for your question, and please feel free to ask further questions if you need to.

Kind regards,
Dr. Nazzal
