Posted on Thu, 24 Dec 2015
Question: I am exhausted all the time, have horrible muscle spasms all the time in my back and hips and legs...seems like it takes a long time for my muscle to relax and can now hardly walk due to pain and spasms in my lower back and hips, I have gained weight for no reason and can't lose weight and can't eat anything with sugar...even natural sugars like polysaccharides and monosaccharides, have insomnia and other symptoms but no one can seem to find the problem. What do you think it might be? Thyroid? Adrenal exhaustion? or other???

Brief Answer:
Hormone related

Detailed Answer:
Sorry to note your troublesome symptoms.

It could be due to thyroid or adrenal or vitamin D related problems.

When I see someone like you in my practice, I typically order the following tests in addition to a detailed physical examination:

CBC
Electrolytes
Calcium
HbA1c
Liver function tests
Kidney function tests
TSH
Free T4
25 hydroxy Vitamin D

There are other uncommon conditions like Cushings syndrome and Acromegaly that can cause weight gain too.
See if you can get to meet an endocrinologist to discuss weight related issues.
