Yeterday he felt severe nausea and stood to go tot he bathroom, passed out and was unresponsive to sternal rub for 30 secs then had seizure like activity for 30 secs. Incontinent during and very confused for short period after. Refusing to go to Dr. 24 yrs old. Query cause ????
Seizure
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for the query
From the history you have provided it looks like he had a seizure episode with spontaneous recovery. The nausea he had was probably a pre seizure prodrome.
It is very important that he gets evaluated for this as seizure can occur at any point of time without a trigger.
Here are some of my suggestions
1. Please take him to the doctor. Convince him by any way possible. I would preferably have him tested by a neurologist.
2. Let him not drive or travel until evalation
3. He has to avoid heights or being around sharp instruments
4. He has to get adequate sleep
5. Let him avoid bright lights including going for a movie
6. Avoid alcohol until evaluation
I hope I was of help, if he has any further queries please get back to me
Regards
He wont go to the Dr as his job involves driving and he wont risk losing his license.
What are the the other options that would cause seizure.
Im assuming brain tumour unlikely as had similar episodes as a child?????
Likewise cerebral infection.
Must avoid driving

Hello
Thanks for getting back. I shall answer your questions one by one so that I dont miss any
1. It is possible that he has had seizures since childhood with infrequent intervals.
2. It is important that he sees a doctor. I understand he is skeptical. It is possible that he might have such episodes while he is driving putting his own life at risk. Please make sure he understands this.
3. Seizure can occur without any trigger, I have listed out the common causes for seizure in my previous reply to you.
4. It is unlikely to be brain tumour, patients with tumour of the brain usually have other symptoms like headache, visual disturbances, etc. The frequency of the seizure will be higher than this
5. As there is no history of fever, it is unlikely to be infection. Even otherwise patients with cerebral infections are extremely toxic. They have symptoms such as headache, neck stiffness and vomiting.
6. Sometimes there is no obvious causes for seizures. His neurologist will be able to conduct tests in an effort to figure out a cause.
I hope I was of help, if you have any further queries please get back to me
