What Causes Severe Pain In Chest, Arm, Head, Jaw And Nausea After An IUD?

Question: i went to the hospital last night because of severe chest, arm, head, jaw pain and nausea. i am 48 years old i have an IUD. i also have a pain pump on multiple med for pain control, blood pressure meds and sleeping meds. i have bars in my kneck and back with severe spinal damage. I need more surgeries and have a pump refills every six weeks. i had no idea the blood tests included a pregnancy test until the doctor told me i was pregnant. i was told i was approx 1 week and the number was 7. i am not against abortion if the situation is extreme or life threatening. what are my chances of having a good outcome with all of these factors against me. my health cannot support a child with health issues. But my beliefs in god and the scriptures have complicated things even further. Help! at one week is it even considered a baby at this point? would the abortion pill be a good option

Brief Answer:
The medical conditions are not likely to affect the unborn child.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I understand that you have a number of medical complications but that does not make your life miserable. While you need to deal with the pain or the processes to deal with the pain, it is a matter of your orientation towards your life. And I am sure that there is significant room for positivity.

Coming to the matter of your pregnancy, if you have the IUD still in place, it is likely to disrupt the continuation of the pregnancy. So, you still can decide whether you want to continue your pregnancy and if that is the case, I would insist you to get the IUD removed. The spinal condition and the other mentioned issues are unlikely to complicate or adversely affect the unborn child. However, since you are an elderly female (above 35 years of age), the probability of chromosomal abnormalities (like Down syndrome) increases but that too can be detected early in pregnancy (after a certain duration) and if the results indicate, you can decide to abort at that point of time. But there is a significant possibility that you would get a normal healthy baby as an outcome of this pregnancy. So, you need decide to abort as of now. Decide to abort only if the results indicate something wrong.

That is what I would suggest.

my pump has diazapan and dilodid i am sure improperly spelled. how will those meds impact a baby? will i need to shut off the pump for safety reasons? I am very happy in my life as it is a baby was not part of the equation. I do not have the support of my husband but i am not sure i can end a life either. i love being a mother but i also know the pain i will endure without some pain control therapy. if i have to shut the pain pump off what help for pain is possible pregnant. i would not want to subject the baby to meds that could harm just because i cant handle pain. The meds i had been prescribed before the pump had so many side effects without proper relief. the pain i suffered without meds while waiting for my pump to be installed was pure agony. the pump helped me live again, i no longer wanted to die. i had 5 children that all came prematurely because of my back problems with some ill effects to my children. i am do not want to cause harm to a child because i cannot handle the pain i could not live with myself. will the pump meds harm the child and will i need to have it shut off and if so will it have to be removed if i do? What help can i expect to control my pain while pregnant without harming my baby?

Brief Answer:
Paracetamol is safe and will help in controlling your pain.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back and for clarifying.

Diazepam has been assigned to pregnancy category D by the FDA. It has been suggested that there is an increased risk of congenital malformations and other developmental abnormalities associated with the use of benzodiazepine drugs. There may be nonteratogenic risks associated with the use of benzodiazepines during pregnancy. Hence, diazepam needs to be discontinued. However, there are other safe pain medicines like paracetamol (to be taken 1g per dose) as and when required, with a maximum of 4g per day.

Feel free to write back in case of further queries.
