What Causes Severe Pain In Ear And Head While Treating Strep Throat?
Question: I am being treated for strep throat, ear/sinus infection. I am having shooting pain in my head above the ear and my scalp is tender to the touch. The pain level is very high. Is this a common pain associated with a sever ear infection? Thank you

I am sos sorry to hear about this pain. This is not uncommon with ear infections. I will suggest that you add Ibuprofen 400mg thrice daily to the tylenol for better pain control. I understand you plight but certain this will greatly less as the infection gets controlled with the antibiotics.

Thank you for your answer. Unfortunately, I am allergic to ibuprofen, so cannot take that. :( I am relieved that this is common and will clear when the antibiotics take affect.

Its a little better, I used some Otic drops, which were old, but turned out to be effective. It helped to numb the pain so I could sleep. The pain seems to be centralized in the Mastoid area, I also have been applying hot compresses and pressure to the pain area, that has helped as well. I have not had to use the Butalbitol as often today, going 5 hours instead of 4, as was yesterday. I think that may be progress. I am able to work today, I could not yesterday.
