Brief Answer:
?? arthritis; need to confirm with tests

Detailed Answer:
Hello ma'am and welcome.

Thank you for writing to us.

I have gone through your query with diligence and would like you to know that I am here to help ma'am.

Based on the attached image, it seems like your mother does have a slight amount of swelling even around the knuckle region. This could be a sign of an underlying condition like arthritis ma'am.

I would also like to know if your mother suffered trauma/injury to the affected region, her age and menstrual status if you do not mind ma'am. Thank you so much.

I would thus recommend a blood investigation including tests like a complete blood count including ESR (erythrocyte sedimentation rate, c-reactive protein (CRP), RA factor and serum ANA. These tests will have confirm the presence of a bone condition that could be resulting in her pain. Please go about these investigations and write back to me with the results or consult an orthopedician immediately after with the reports.

In the meantime, you could apply a col pack to help reduce swelling and use a mild pain management medication like diclofenac SOS when the pain is unbearable.

I hope you find my response helpful. Please feel free to write back to me for any further clarifications, I would be more than happy to help you.

Best wishes.
