Question: My baby is suffering from stomach pain from last 4 days. On Thursday(12-Feb-2015) night he complains for severe stomach pain in lower right side of abdomen. He started crying for 1 hrs and after treating with Hing he got some relief and then slept for the night. Next morning he again complain for severe stomach pain in the middle. We consulted a pediatrician and he suggested some medicine for pain relief and stomach infection. As per doctor there may be a chance of stomach infection. Medicines are "Mox suspension 125mg" and "Atarax". My baby is using these medicine from last 4 days without any significant relief.
Just to be sure about stone problem doctor also suggested ultra sound. Everything is all right in ultra sound. If you need I can attach the report for your reference.
I have again visited the doctor today and he suggested for X-ray, Blood test and urine test. X-Ray report is also normal. I am still waiting for urine and blood test report. Doctor has now prescribed some changed medicine. As per doctor my baby is not able to digest the food frequently and suggested to give him food only when he ask for that. Doctor suggested to hospitalize my baby to observe him. Can you please suggest the possible cause of this stomach pain. Also suggest what kind of precaution we can take to make him recover fast.

Brief Answer:
Could be urinary or gut infection

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for writing to us.
I have read the full description and have seen the report you have uploaded.
The ultrasound report is normal.
My possibilities include
A. Gut infection which may not be picked up in ultrasound or xray.
This needs to be assessed clinically and will need antibiotics as suggested by your doctor. Follow your doctors advice and wait for culture report.
Upload the rest of the report reports once available.
2. Urinary tract infection.
This too can present with lower abdominal pain.
This needs antibiotics if confirmed.
Again let me know the urine tests results too.
If your doctor has advised admission for observation do follow his advice as clinical examination is the key
Meanwhile continue antibiotics and give him plenty of liquids to help him recover faster.
Wishing your child good health
Regards
Dr Arun
