What Causes Severe Pain In The Knee?

default
Posted on Mon, 30 Jan 2017
Question: For the past year, starting one random morning, my left knee has been hurting (particularly when I wake up, and most notably on the outside of the knee - lateral bone). It's not debilitating, just annoying really. I don't recall an injury, let alone one that would last this long.
I cant place my foot on the other leg without it hurting, which was when I really noticed it.

I'm curious if this is caused my age and health (being 30 years old and overweight - 240 lbs)?

I don't know if I should see a doctor (I don't want this to be an early knee-blowout symptom) or if something like this is common at 30, let alone, what they could do.

Brief Answer:
Bicipital tendinitis

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for posting the question.

I have gone through your medical history in detail.

From the history that you have mentioned,it seems that you are suffering from bicipital tendinitis.

In this condition, there is a inflammation at the junction between a muscle tendon and the bone on the outer side of the knee.

This tendon is specifically used during walking and lifting the leg and that's why you experience pain at this point.

This inflammation is actually outside the knee joint .
The cause in your case may be being overweight or a knee strain.

Get a MRI of knee done to rule out other conditions related to knee joint.

Wearing a supportive knee brace and taking anti inflammatory muscle relaxants will help.
Apply local gel followed by hot fomentation.

Avoid squatting or climbing stairs.

Reduction of weight is the mainstay of the treatment.

You can consult a orthopedist if these measures do not help.

I hope the answer was useful.

Feel free to ask me any follow up queries that you may have.

Thank you.
Kind regards.
