What Causes Severe Pain In The Navel Area Indicate?
Question: Female, age 56. Not on any medications having intense pains coming and going just above belly button and just below bottom of typical bra line. Area of pain is about a hand span. Sometimes goes into middle back. Had for about 8 hrs. Finally able to have bowel movement with help of Mylanta. Stool was black, unformed but not runny. Waves of nausea. Feel like want to throw up but haven't. Lots of belching. Never had this type of pain before. Doesn't fill like a regular upset stomach b/c of overeatting .

-an ultrasound abdomen
-blood tests (complete blood count, erythrocyte sedimentation rate, c-reactive protein, liver & kidney function tests, )
-urine analysis
-stool analysis
A CT scan of the abdomen or an endoscopy may be required based on the clinical findings.
Black stool may signify old blood on stools.
As the pain is unusual, lasted this long and is associated with black stools, I urge you to seek medical attention right away.
In the meantime,
# have a liquid bland diet
# stay well hydrated
# keep an eye out for the following warning signs:
-high temperature (more than 100.4 farenheit)
-continuous vimit
-severe abdominal pain
-blood in stools or vomitus
-reduced urine output
