What Causes Severe Pain Near The Right Kidney, Abdominal Bloating And Weight Gain?

default
Posted on Fri, 24 Jun 2016
Question: I went to the ER on Friday night, with severe pains near my right kidney. Suspected kidney stones, and that is what it was. Sent me home with some pain killers, 5 mg tabs of oxycodone and 0.4 mg of Tamsulosin which is supposed to help flush through kidneys. Stone(S) are still there but moving. One thing that concerns me is my abdominal bloating. I've gained about 8 lbs since Friday night. Not eating much. Assume it's water gain. I look like I'm pregnant. Should I be concerned? Treatment?
Thanks XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Yes,should get back to ER

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX

I have gone through your medical history carefully and am worried about your actual health problems related to kidney stones.

As you've been visited ER and run some tests there, can you please upload the tests reports? I need to analyze them myself to see at what point your kidneys have been damaged and what the size of stones is.

If you've been gaining weight during these days, I believe it could be due to water retention. Immediate treatment with prescription diuretics should be started. However, tests reports are needed first.

Then, nephrologist is to consult further in order to determine the best treatment strategy: medications or surgery or laser?

Next, it is extremely important to:
- limit salt intake
- take fern stone and magnesium citrate for kidney stones

Once again, you need immediate attention so better go back to ER, get retested there and ask for immediate appointment with nephrologist.

Hope it helped.
