What Causes Severe Pain While Inserting A Tampon?

Question: My period started today so I went to insert a tampon. When I started inserting it I noticed a extreme pain. It also hurt to remove it.
Now I am noticing it is uncomfortable to sit, it constantly feels like I need to pee (been 5 times in 30 mins) and when I do pee only a small amount comes out but it really hurts. I
haven't had issues using tampons before

Hello
Thanks for writing to us with your health concern.
Have you left a tampon in there by chance - a forgotten old one ?
If not, then the possibility is very strong that you have some kind of a urinary / vaginal infection.
That would explain the urinary frequency, the pain and the discomfort.
I would ask you to have an internal evaluation, a vaginal swab and culture, and also a urine routine microscopy plus urine culture test.
Wear a pad for now until you have the workup done.
Drink lots of water, and avoid touching down there.
All the best.
Please feel free to discuss further.

I don't understand how an infection could start immeditely after trying to insert the tampon. I had been to the toilet before that and everything was fine.
Can u please explain?
Can u please explain?
Brief Answer:
As below
Detailed Answer:
It would not start immediately after inserting the tampon.
It might have been a mild one, that you never really noticed until you touched down there.
Again, there could be a polyp, an old forgotten tampon or a mild prolapse there that is causing these symptoms.
You need an evaluation if these symptoms persist or recur.
AN internal exam by an OB - GYN to know which one of these is it.
HOw are the symptoms now ?

Sitting is fine, frequent need to pee has subsided, but still hurts to pee, just not as much
Brief Answer:
As below
Detailed Answer:
Since this has never happened before, it is something to be looked into.
The fact that the symptoms have subsided so quickly make me think that it is not an infection , but rather a polyp, or a cervical lesion or a prolapse.
Can you have an OB - GYN examine you ?
