What Causes Severe Shoulder Pain While Exercising After Shoulder Surgery?
Question: Hi, I had arthroscopic shoulder surgery eight days ago for a small rotator cuff tear repair and subacromial decompression with acromioplasty (Type 3 acromion.) Saw the surgeon on Wednesday, was told to stop the sling and start physical therapy, which I did on Wednesday. I have exercises to do at home, but one of them is causing intense pain, to the point where I'm out of breath trying to do it and whimpering. I realize that rehab from rotator cuff surgery is painful, but this painful? I'm supposed to do 15 reps and can only do three. Of course, it's the weekend and the doc and PT are unavailable. Should I continue with the exercise or wait?
Brief Answer:
Need to wait it out
Detailed Answer:
Hi there.
Avoid doing the exercise that hurts too much.
Apply warm water fomentation to increase the blood supply and reduce stiffness in the region.
Continue with other exercises and you may do that particular exercise as well, but not to the point of it hurting.
One the swelling inside subsides you will be able to do it.
I hope I have answered your query.
I will be available to answer your follow up queries.
