What Causes Severe Swelling And Soreness In Knee Post An Injury?
Question: last Friday my shoe broke and I fell in a parking lot. my knee is extremely swollen and sore and also below the knee cap underneath the large scab is a huge lump that is very hot to the touch. the lump feels like a mixture of fluid and just hard. I can bend it but not without a lot of pain. I did have an xray on the knee cap on Saturday and they said there was nothing broken, however, the swelling and pain has not gone away below the knee cap
Brief Answer:
Possible skin infection
Detailed Answer:
Thank you for contacting HCM with your health care concerns
I am sorry to hear that you had a fall and injured your knee. The pictures you uploaded does show a large scab and some local redness. The fluid you are feeling could be the beginning of a pocket of infection or could just be a pocket of blood. At this point I would recommend that you be seen by your medical provider to be sure this is not infection. While waiting for you appointment I recommend using warm compresses to help speed healing. You can also use tylenol or ibuprofen to help with the pain.
