What Causes Shortness Of Breath After Bathing In Hot Water?
Probably there is autonomic dysautonomia if it happens regularly
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX XXXXXXX
Thanks for writing in to us.
I have read through your query in detail.
Please find my observations below.
1. Taking a hot shower can cause the blood vessel walls to relax and this reduces the blood pressure in the blood vessels.
2. This can lead to a reduced blood flow through the lungs and heart and resulting in compensatory increase in heart rate and therefore shortness of breath.
3. Such a situation is more prone to happen if there is autonomic neuropathy or any dysautonomia in the autonomic nervous system and please consult your doctor if it happens regularly. Probably you can use warm water and a shower chair or bath with a bucket and mug.
Hope your query is answered.
Please do write back if you have any doubts.
Regards,
Also please let me know if this can also happen due to GERD or acidity because I also sometime feel shortness of breath in different case than hot shower.
Regards,

Acidity can cause shortness of breath
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX XXXXXXX
Thanks for writing back with an update.
1. You can try and avoid taking shower in hot water. Please use lukewarm water instead. The difference between the room temperature and water should not be much. This will avoid shortness of breath when taking a shower.
2. You can have bath using bucket of water and mug. This will regulate the amount of water that you pour on yourself and prevent continuous hot water running when bathing.
3. Acidity can cause shortness of breath when the stomach acid enters the esophagus and causes narrowing. It can enter the lungs in rare circumstances.
Hope your query is answered.
Please do write back if you have any doubts.
