Question: Hello Maam
I have consulted you for my wife for last couple of months. My wife is now 32 weeks pregnant. Her Last Haemoglobin levels are measured at 10. Her last measured HB was 10.4 in May. She has Beta Thalaessemia Minor Carrier Trait. I am not a carrier. we has a USG 5 days back and everything was normal with normal baby growth.
She feels a bit of short breath and sometimes from this week she feels her heart rate increase. Is Short Breath and Heart Rate Increase common in third trimester ? Both are not happening at same time. Sometime she is just resting and her heart rate increases a bit.

Brief Answer:
Likely to be normal

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear,
I have gone through your question and understand the concerns.
I have reviewed the reports.
Short spells of tachycardia and shortness of breath are common and normal in the third trimester of pregnancy as the uterus and fetus enlarge and push the diaphragm up compressing the lungs.
However, if the spells are very frequent (several times a day) and disturbing her normal life, then she should get an ECG and thyroid levels to rule out any cardiac disturbance and hyperthyroidism, as these conditions can cause such symptoms.
Hope you found the answer helpful.

Hello Doc
We went to doctor yesterday and checked up. Everything seems to be all right. I have attached her latest blood test reports. Her haemoglobin has increased to 10.7 now from 10 last time. Her iron is at 209. She is taking 30mgx2 iron per day now. Should i reduce it maam ? I have attached the latest blood report. Kindly review

Brief Answer:
The iron dose should be reduced.

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear,
I have reviewed the reports.

It shows high iron levels due to the intake of iron.
The dose of iron should be reduced to once a day, as excess iron can lead to iron overload, cardiac and liver ailment.
She should take 30 mg iron once a day.
