What Causes Shoulder Pain And Restricted Movement Of Shoulders?
Question: Me and my wife have started experiencing left shoulder pain which seems to be more superficial to the muscle and causes minor pain when moved in certain directions. we just realized this started about the same time for both of us and we are having the same symptoms. What are some possible causes? Additionally for me the pain seemed to be starting in the right shoulder also for about a day but then went away is only still occurring in my left shoulder. Thank you!!
Brief Answer:
Tendinitis may be the cause

Hello
Thanks for posting
I have gone through your query and understand your concern. A true couple sharing the same suffering. Going by the description it is benign (non serious) condition and will heal of its own with time.
But to make it pain free I have following suggestion for you-
Hot water fomentation, Ibuprofen (especially at bed time) along with muscle relaxant drug like thiocolchicoside (Tablet.Thiospas A) helps.
The cause could well be Tendinitis, Subacromial bursitis.
Do you have pain more at night time?
I hope you are medically fit. Looking forward to your reply.
Take care

Hi Dr. Chugh,
Thank you for the reply. While I hope it is a mild case of Tendinitis my concern of the apparent simultaneous occurrence makes me concerned of some external cause that is common to the both of us such as poisoning of some type. My wife is 58 and I'm 47, and while we are married it is a convenience marriage for both of us, in that we obviously care about one another but I don't believe we are experiencing some type of psycho-semantic type of pain. Are there any type of poisoning symptoms that may manifest itself in this way with stiffness and pain in the left shoulder/deltoid muscle?
Sincerely,
XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Poisoning is highly unlikely
Detailed Answer:
Hello
You are welcome
I have gone through your reply carefully and its simple coincidence or both of you might have participated in some kind of activity to have shoulder pain at the same time. Poisoning is highly unlikely as a cause for shoulder pain. They do not behave like this.
You may follow the treatment as discussed earlier.
Wishing good health and happy married life to both of you.
Regards

Dr. Chugh,
Thank you for your careful consideration and recommendations. How long should we tolerate this condition before becoming worried and seeking medical attention?

Brief Answer:
It is must to rule out diabetes by blood test
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Its good to see you.
The tendinitis takes time (3-4 week ) to recover and has strong relationships with diabetes, hence it is recommended to have blood sugar test done, if not done. Physiotherapy helps in early recovery.
Both of you will get over it .
