Posted on Wed, 16 Dec 2015
Question: If I have sinus issues and crackeling in my ears when I open mouth and swollen glands in throat as well as mucus in throat not a ton but still there. This has been going on now for four weeks. I had a cold month or two ago and I feel after my cold the sinuses never went back to normal. I have no other symptoms great appetite plenty of energy just want it to go away. What could this be? Can this be HIV or something like an immune disorder or just a chronic sinus issue?

Brief Answer:
Please get evaluated for chronic sinus condition in detail

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
Thanks for writing in to us.

I have read through your query in detail.
Please find my observations below.

1. In my opinion your sinuses need to be evaluated in detail for chronic sinusitis. I wonder if you have got any CT scan of the paranasal sinuses done. SInce the problem is existing for over 4 weeks, it will certainly help to do a CT scan on the recommendation of an ENT specialist.

2. I regularly have patients with similar sinus issues and in most of the chronic sinus patients, the CT scan shows sinus inflammation, polyps or retained secretions from blocked passages, which cause symptoms for a long time.

3. If a chronic sinus condition and any particular pathology is confirmed then the treatment is directed to the condition. HIV is not a specific symptomatic diagnosis. It weakens the immune system and predisposes a person to multiple health conditions.

Hope your query is answered.
Please do write back if you have any doubts.

Brief Answer:
Infection in the sinuses can cause neck lymph node enlargement

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing back with an update.

1. The ear, nose and throat are closely related in location. Infection in the sinuses can cause swelling of lymph nodes in the neck. You can also have throat and sinus infection at the same time. Your condition requires regular follow up and discussion of symptoms with the doctor so that the chronic sinusitis can be completely treated with least probability of recurrent infection.

Hope your query is answered.
