What Causes Sinusitis?
For antibiotics, you will need prescription from local doctor.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to health care magic,
I have read your query and will be answered by me.
Majority of cases of sinusitis is due to viral infection, but in some cases it is related to bacterial infection as it may be in your case.
You may go for some routine blood works,ESR and X-ray face to confirm the infection and to differentiate whether it is viral or bacterial origin.
If I would have your treating doctor,I would like to give,
1) Complete antibiotic course with sufficient dosage like I would prefer to give amoxicillin with clavulanic acid (500+125 mg) three times daily for minimum 5 to 7 days complete course.
Here,I can not prescribe you antibiotics because of the reason it will require complete history taking including history of allergic to antibiotics with thoroughly clinical examination and also as per E-patient policy.
Antibiotics are not usually required in case of viral infection but if you would take it then there will be no issue, rather it would certainly help you to resolve from this sinus symptoms quickly.
As antibiotic is a prescription drug, you can discuss with your family doctor or some local GP who will know better about it.
I am sure your symptoms will start subsiding once you will start taking antibiotics.
Apart from antibiotics, you should also continue to take symptomatic medications,
2) take pain killers with anti-inflammatory combination (paracetamol 500 + ibuprofen 400) drugs available over the counter.
3) Antihistamines like levocetrizine or benadryl if you have a dry cough or cold.
4) Nebulization with steam inhalation 2 to 3 times daily which will also be helpful for symptomatic relief.
5) Take multivitamins like vitamin B complex with folic acid daily once.
I would expect you will start improving with initial 3 or 4 days antibiotic dosages.
So consult some local or family doctor for appropriate antibiotic prescription.
