Posted on Mon, 5 Oct 2015
Question: Hello I am a 72 year old female who just had cardioversion for a-fib &tachycardia. My doctor has put me on amiodarone. I was on flecanide 50 mg 2X daily, but I never took the second dose at night as I did not sleep afterwards. I am being placed on 200 mg of the amiodarone should I ask for a lower dose after the drug has been taken a month or so? It seems to have bad lung function and I am asthmatic on singular to help control. I have been in hospital about 6 times in 2 years. with a-fib and tach.. Doctor took me off metropolol this time.

Brief Answer:
Amiodarone lowest possible doses already, Asthma needs management

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for asking

I read your question and i understand your concern. Regarding the dose of amiodarone i want you to say that you already ar eon lowest possible doses of 200 mg a day which is even less than the maintenance dose. There is no harm in talking your fears with doctor and see if the dose can be reduced any further but i think it may need increment instead of decreasing.

Amiodarone does not affect pulmonary functions and if you have asthma exacerbations amiodarone have no direct role in it. Get your asthma medications readjusted for the dose if the symptoms are not subsiding. Stopping metoprolol was a good idea as despite selective beta 1 blocker it may have been a player in your asthma symptoms.

Nutshell lowest possible doses of amiodarone already but lets see what your doctor has to say.

I hope it helps. Take good care of yourself and dont forget to close the discussion please.
