What Causes Sore Throat, Ear Pain And Tender Feeling In Left Side Of Adam's Apple?
Question: Hi, I have been having a weird feeling in my throat for a week now, I am a smoker (4 yrs). I think it started after smoking excessively one day, woke up with a sore throat like feeling and didn't go away the next day. 2 days ago, i started to feel an earache too. The discomfort I am having is like this: I have a tender feeling on the left side of my Adam's apple and the earache is on the same side too.When touching the spot on the side of the neck, it feels a bit swollen compared to the other side. No traditional sore throat, no difficulty swallowing or talking, no coughing, no voice problems. mostly wake up at night with a dry mouth, goes away by drinking water. but throughout the day, there is this feeling on these spots. Went to urgent care this morning, strep test came negative and there is no swelling in my tonsils or ears. I have a little fatigue going on as well, no fever.

For my patients with similar complaints I advise them to do regular salt water gargle and steam inhalation. This will help in reducing the symptoms and also to prevent spreading of infection if any. Also anti inflammatory drug like aceclofenac with anti histamine like cetrizine will help in reducing the inflammatory signs and symptoms like pain, irritation in both throat and ear. So I advise the same to you with plenty of water.
If your symptoms does not improve or worsens then for bacterial infection antibiotic may be required.
