Brief Answer:
probably just irritation

Detailed Answer:
Hi and welcome

In most cases, this happens due to irritation of nipple with clothes, or injury.

If there is no secretion or palpable lump in the breast, there is no need to be worried.

You should just continue putting ice packs and take nonsteroid painkillers (eg. Tylenol).

If there's any lump, discharge or fever then this may indicate abscess and you should do an ultrasound to rule this out. Some more serious issues such as tumors are possible but certainly not the first thing to think of and it would also be visible on ultrasound.

Feel free to ask further.
Wish you good health.
Regards
