What Causes Split On The Buttock That Is Cracking?
Question: Hi I'm 60 and female. I have cerebral palsy and in a wheelchair. I keep getting a split in my bum crack which varies in length from 1cm to a 2in. It's bleeding when I wash it I have used Sudo Creme to dry and heal it, but it just gets healed when it opens again like a zip. I just need to move a certain way or bend down and it all starts again. Please help.

This type of a typical problem of ''split in bum crack'' occur for a few reason and correcting them helps to heal this. You have to continue treatment for a long time if you do not want recurrences.
The primary reason is the reduced integrity of the skin in this area.
Suggested treatment:
Stop applying any creams/ ointments. No soaps.
Apply and clean 2 to 4 times with liquid Povidone Iodine (Betadine) only.
Vitamin A 1 capsule twice daily and Calcirol (Vitamin D) once daily - both for 3 days. This will help regain the strength of the local skin and hasten the healing process.
Add Multivitamins in the form of antioxidants doses, twice a day till you have a nice healing and continue then in a dose of once a day for 3 months ( to avoid recurrence.
Avoid any position which stretches the affected area.
This is the simplest way, all my patients get a benefit.
Oral antibiotics are given only if there is an evidence of infection , which your local Doctor can tell about.
