What Causes Spotting After Getting A Depo Provera Shot?

post depot shot bleeding....use antifibrinolytics...explained
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for the query to hcm,
It is generally seen that there occurs irregular spotting in the inter menstrual period after the depot shot simply because the progesterone levels take around 2- 3 weeks to stabilise here.
If the bleeding is nagging and in excess then you should be opting for antifibrinolytics like TAB TRANEXAMIC acid 500mg thrice a day for 5 days. This shall not only decrease the bleeding but may stop it as well. This is safe and with no sir effects. Oestrogen patch is a strict no no , as it would unnecessarily cause further hormonal imbalance and can contribute to further bleeding and even clots.
Please don't panic , the bleeding shall subside with antifibrinolytics and as depot promote amenorrhoea as form of contraception the next dose should well be taken on exact time to avoid such episodes in future.
You may discuss the option of antifibrinolytics with your physician and get them prescribed.
I hope i have been able to address your concerns,
Regards

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for the follow up.
The mechanism of action is definitely clotting but not in the blood stream or vessels but it helps sealing and forming a clot at the site of bleeding be it cervix or uterine wall.
There no increased chances of clotting when used for 3-5 days. Infant its the most regularly used medication for women with menorrhagia and those who have inter menstrual bleeding following depot injections.
If you are skeptical then you should use it for 3 days and review yourself, if the bleeding stops then you may stop it that day itself. This can cause some dizziness and headache if your hydration level is low and hence increased water intake is advised along with its use.
