What Causes Stinging Sensation On The Side Of The Head?

Posted on Mon, 21 Nov 2016
Question: I have a young lady from Mexico here on a tourist visa. She is 26 years old and today she had a stinging pop in the front of her head and around to the side of her head and down behind her ear toward her shoulder. I checked her Pulse, BP and Sugar. Everything was normal except B/P 98/60. She said the Systolic was normal for her. She is 5'5" and weighs 125. I gave her two 325 mg Bayer and had her to rest. This was couple of hours ago. She now has a headache front and side, mild to moderate. I am concerned this could have been an anurism. She fainted at the time of the occurance and I heard her fall. but did not hit her head. I did check pupillary dilation, appeared normal

Brief Answer:
More likely to be migraine.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for posting your query.

I am Dr Sudhir Kumar, Neurologist, and would try my best to help you.

I have noted the clinical details of the patient. Based on that, it is more likely to be a migraine attack. In aneurysmal bleed causing subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), there is severe headache (often described as the worst pain ever). Also, in SAH, headache is more often in occipital (back of head) region and neck (although exceptions may occur).

As of now, you can continue analgescis such as Ibuprofen. If headache persists, a CT scan of head may be done.

I sincerely hope my reply has helped you.

I would be pleased to answer, if you have any follow up queries or if you require any further information.
