What Causes Stomach Bloating After Umbilicalplasty?
Question: I had 4 shots of local anesthesia two days ago around my belly button for a simple umbilicalplasty. I noticed my stomach was bloated soon as he finished the surgery. I do not think swelling/bloating is from the surgery because it was not very invasive. I did not have a hernia removed, it was to fix a scar. I do have stitches. My problem is that my stomach is still very bloated, is this normal? Could this be from the local anesthesia?
Brief Answer:
Possibly a stitch caught the intestine
Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Read your history and description of events.
The bloating is possibly due to a stitch passing through the intestine. I too know this is a remote possibility. This is the thinnest part of the abdominal wall. And chances of passing a stitch through the intestine is just possible.
The bloating of the stomach has to have a reason.
You say that the stomach was bloated as soon as the surgery was finished 2 days ago. And it is still bloated.
I would advise to see the Surgeon ASAP.
You may need an X-ray in a standing position, clinical evaluation by the Surgeon, Stop taking anything orally till you see the Surgeon.

How would that be possible? The scar he removed was on the surfice of the skin. I was not cut deep at all. I also have no pain. Is it not possible that i am still bloated from the local anesthesia? Seems a lot of fluid (4 shots) to be put in 103lb body .
Brief Answer:
No it can not.
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your feedback.
Local anesthesia is absorbed within half to one hour of injection, wherever it is given, so it can not cause the bloating and such problems. (At another areas like brachial block or so it is given in a even larger quantity and still absorbed within one hour).
So let us think of another possibility.
