default
Posted on Tue, 19 Aug 2014
Question: 31 weeks pregnant, and I'm getting moderate period like pains they started yesterday and feel slightly worse today. The cramping is in the same place i would normally have period pain. I also in the last few hours feel like a flu or maybe its just a feel run down. Is the period pain normal. The cramps seem to hurt more when the baby moves or kicks

Brief Answer:
Please, talk to your OBGYN!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about these symptoms that you have reported. At your pregnancy age, these symptoms may represent warning signs for premature labor that may lead to premature delivery. Normal baby movements are felt but they are generally not painful. With you reporting pains of gradually worsening intensity, I will recommend that you get a medical consultation to make sure we are not missing out something concerning.

If nothing worrisome is identified, reassurance would be offered. Any identified abnormality would be addressed accordingly too enable you carry on to term with no problems.

In all, this could be an early warning sign for premature labor. Get evaluated and managed accordingly by your OBGYN.

I hope you find this helpful. I wish you well and thank you so much for trusting us with your health question this day. Feel free to ask for more information and clarification if need be.

Brief Answer:
Then you are fine!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

If these are sensations and not painful, then it most likely would not be related to premature labor. This is called Braxton-hicks contractions and are totally normal with no pathological significance.

Labor pains are severe, short duration and cramping in nature with complete resolution in between episodes. This may be accompanied by a loss of a bloody show through the vaginal. If all these are absent, then it is unlikely that you are in danger of a possible premature labor and delivery.

I hope this helps. I wish you well.
