What Causes Stomach Cramps When On Amoxicillin?
Question: On Tuesday my doctor pulled me off of amoxicillin(was prescribed due to a sinus infection) due to severe stomach cramping occurring on both Monday and Tuesday. As of today (5 days later), the severe stomach cramping has stopped but I still have lingering stomach pain(tolerable but uncomfortable). The past few days the lingering stomach pain has felt like more of a burning sensation but today it just feels like general stomach pain. Is this length of time with stomach pain normal or is it something to be concerned with? Thanks for your help.
Brief Answer:
hi and welcome to hcm.
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for the query.
It is possible but it is not usual that amoxicilin side effect lasts for more than 2 days. So i dont think that this stomach pain is caused by antibiotic and you should try to find another cause of it. It can be gastritis or.biliaty colic which are most common causes if such pain. I suggest to eat easier food and take antiacid medicines in next several days and see will pain subside. if not, then you should see gastroenterologist for further treatment.wish you good health. Are either of the issues you mentioned serious issues? Thanks doc.
Brief Answer:
hi
Detailed Answer:
No, it should pass spontaneously. just eat less fatty food, avoid coffee, alcohol ,fried food and carbonated drinks. Also, drink menta tea and lot of fluids.
If pain persist for 5-7 more days then you should do gastroscopy and abdominal ultrasound. but I dont think it will be neccessary since serious diagnises are very rare in your age.
