Brief Answer:
Back problems can be due to age related degenerative changes.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The bowel issues are less likely to cause the back problems. To detect the correlation and exact cause of back problems it is best to get an MRI scan of your back done and consult a neurosurgeon. Age related degenerative changes in the spine are a common cause of back problems that are persistent.
I hope this answers your query.

My back issues have been worsening since 1987. Two years ago my Gastroenterologist, after a colonoscopy, said I have a" touch of IBS, and recommended a diet loaded with fiber along with Miralax and a stool softener on a daily basis. I am experiencing bowel issues and can no longer chance leaving my home. I also have raging hemroids. This is affecting my life adversely. What other options do I have because this isn't working!!

Brief Answer:
You need to consult a gastroenterologist.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
IBS that is interfering with your daily routine needs aggressive treatment with medicines under the guidance of gastroenterologist. The blood loss due to hemorrhoids will also cause weakness and needs to be stopped with the help of medicines. Any home remedies will not help. You will have to consult a gastroenterologist.
Try to do some dietary changes and lifestyle modifications for relief.

1.Some vegetables (cauliflower, broccoli, cabbage, brussels sprouts) and legumes (beans) may worsen bloating and gassiness and should be avoided.

2.Dietary fiber may lessen symptoms of constipation.

3.Drink plenty of water, and avoid carbonated drinks such as soda, which may cause gas and discomfort.

4.Eat smaller meals and eat slowly to help reduce cramping and diarrhea.

5.Low fat, high carbohydrate meals such as pasta, rice, and whole-grain breads may help .

Reduce Caffeine,Alcohol,Dairy products,Fatty foods,Artificial sweeteners .

You can use some over the counter drugs like pepto bismol, tums, imodium, entrocalm, etc for symptomatic relief.

Daily exercises along with a low fat diet will help you overcome the problems.

Hope my answer is helpful.
