What Causes Stomach Pain And Diarrhea?
oral rehydration, probiotics
Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic
Gastroenteritis is infection/inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract. It can be due to bacterial or viral infection and is usually self limiting (infection resolves on its own).
It can be associated with abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, diarrhea .
Some or all of these symptoms occur.
Treatment
(1)avoid all solid food for the next 24 hours at least
When you start back eating use dry foods initially.
(2)use oral rehydration salts (obtained from local pharmacy) or gatorade. This is to replace the fluids and electrolytes loss from the diarrhea.
Only small amounts should be used at a time. If you use a lot at a time, it would cause vomiting.
In the initial hour use 1 tsp to 1 tbs every 5 to 10 minutes .
If this is tolerated then increase the amount and frequency
Replacing the fluids along with the electrolytes would prevent weakness and dizziness that can occur.
(3)use probiotics- either in yogurts that have probiotics or obtain probiotics separately .
This shortens the course of diarrhea and any GI upset
(4) peptobismol may help reduce your symptoms
(5)there are also medications that you can use to shorten the course of diarrhea eg lomotil
I hope this helps ,feel free to ask any other questions
