What Causes Sudden Difficulty In Swallowing When Having Tonsils?
Question: Woke up and went to gym, during workout felt like something stuck in throat or iiratating throat, couldn't swallow something. Got home and tonsil is super long and touching tongue. Still having trouble swallowing. What's going on?
Brief Answer:
Tonsillitis vs peritonsilar abscess
Detailed Answer:
Dear patient,
Thanks for your query. It is most likely a consequence of a throat infection, and should be looked into by a provider, in Urgent or Express Care, to determine the need for antibiotics. There are more rare complications of a sore throat, such as a peritonsillar abscess, which is a pus collection that pushes the tonsil and difficults talking or sawllowing; this needs to be ruled out.
Hope this helps, Happy Holidays,
