What Causes Sudden Fever, headache And Loss Of Taste?
Question: Onset of a sudden fever, headache, and loss of taste. Very thirsty. Difficulty eating food and knife-like pains in upper abdomen. Over a few days, lower abdominal pain began, with gas and frequent bowel movements (I almost never experience diarrhea). Not much chance to rest with my occupation so symptoms have lingered off and on for 17 days now and I have noticed small amounts of blood - tinged mucous on surface of my mostly undigested stools. Taste has returned along with a good appetite finally, but some small cramping remains. Prior to this sickness, I spent a weekend with my grandchildren who had just begun raising chickens, so I am a bit worried about Salmonella. And, of course the mucous is alarming.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thank you for the query.
Salmonella gives rather bloody diarrhea along with fever.
Your symptoms can be caused by some other intestinal infection or partial bowels obstruction due to adhesions post hysterectomy.
As your symptoms are present for a long time now you should definitelly consult your doctor. Blood work, licer tests, pancreas tests , stool tests and abdominal x-ray should be done.
Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards
