What Causes Sudden Gain Of Weight After Having Sterodin Injection?
Question: Doctors had given me an inj. of Sterodine on 26.1.2002 .on17.2.2002 they had given Inj.Progynon. After that there is a drastic increment in my weight i.e.49kg to 75kg. Now I have three children of 12yrs ,10yrs.&7yrs. but now my weight is90kg. It is not in control besides my efforts .Does it related to my former medication?
Brief Answer:
Weight gain and medication
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thank you for your query. I can understand your concerns.
Sterodin is a novel non-specific immuno-stimulating drug produced by a combination of bile lipids and bacterial metabolites. Its side effects are unknown.
Progynon Depot (Estradiol Valerate) is used to treat the symptoms of low estrogen in women who do not produce enough estrogen naturally.
Progynon can cause increase/decrease in weight.Your unusual gain in weight can be related to Inj.Progynon,if no other cause is apparent.

What are the best remedy treatment of it .
Brief Answer:
Remedy for weight gain
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
If not strongly indicated, you may stop further dose of Inj.Progynon and watch if you have stopped gaining weight. If not, go for thyroid function tests like Serum T3,T4 & TSH to rule out hypothyroidism as cause of weight gain. However regular exercise like 30 minutes brisk walking at least 5 times a week and low fat,low calorie diet will help you normalize your weight .

Now suggest me what can I do.
Brief Answer:
Anti-obesity treatment
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
As you gave the detailed history ,your weight gain from 49 to 90 kg happened over a period of several years following child birth in 2003. This is unlikely to be the after effects of Progynon .
Yours is a case of simple obesity ,if hypothyroidism is ruled out.
The best remedy is life-style changes i.e. restriction of calories and fatty foods and regular exercise. A dietitian will be of much help in this regard. There are several anti-obesity drugs too but can be taken only in consultation with your doctor,as it needs periodic supervision.
