What Causes Sudden Muscle Strain And Excruciating Pain In Back And Legs?

default
Posted on Thu, 20 Aug 2015
Question: My husband got up a little while ago to use the bathroom and then couldn't get up. He says his legs and back are tied up together and he's in excruciating pain. we finally got him to crawl back in bed, but every time he moves his back spasms. I want to call 911 but he is acting like a man about it. I have never seen him in this much pain. Today he received a cortisone shot in his shoulder for arthritis. His first ever. Is this some kind of reaction? Help!

Brief Answer:
Urgent medical evaluation needed.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for using HCM.

I have read your question and understand your concerns.

Probable conditions that may justify this situations are muscles strained, worsening of degenative spine disease and arthritis, sudden onset of herniated disc disease.

One important thing is the legs movement; your husband doesn't move his legs because he can't ( weakness), or he can move normally the legs, but the movement causes or exacerbated pain?

Cortisone could cause muscles malaise, but not that clinical situation that you describe.

Herniated disc disease if massive could cause paralysis, so there is need for a urgent evaluation of this possibility by clinical evaluation and imaging of vertebral column.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

Best regards.
