What Causes Sudden Sharp Increase In Feet Size In Child?
Question: My daughter is eleven years old. In the last three months her feet went from a size 4 to a size 8.5. She has not got her menstrual cycle yet. She has not grown in height either. I am wondering what could be the causal factor in her feet growing rapidly in such a short period of time?

The physical growth during pubertal periods starts from hand and feet and then there is enlargement of legs and arm.Trunk and torso growth occurs at last.
It is easier for the parents to notice the change in feet/shoes size than to check other features of onset of puberty like public hair or breast bud.
Sudden sharp increase in feet size indicates onset of puberty and it preceeds the increase in height or other sexual features.
It has been seen that foot size reaches the adult value at the onset of puberty.
In females puberty starts at 10-11 years.First there is physical growth (hand and feets)with breast bud development.In sexual maturation the sequence is thelarch (breast bud development)puberarch (pubic hair) and then menarche (onset of menstruation).
So I won't get worried as this is a normal physiological phenomena.
I would suggest you to monitor the growth and pubertal features of the child.
If you find any abnormality consult your pediatrician.
